Congratulations to Mandy C., age 5, for this cover-winning entry! Mandy’s favorite animal is the dolphin, which she created using oil pastels.
Mandy’s art teacher, Miss Tiffany, describes Mandy as “spunky, with a really strong personality. Mandy has grown so much. She takes pride in her artwork, and she is a joy in class.” Mandy’s other interests include baking, reading, and ballet.
Congratulations to our second-place winner, Emma M., age 5! Emma had seen Shamu the whale at Sea World and knew what her contest entry would be about—swimming with Shamu!
Emma loves to draw. In the spring she entered a poster contest in her school district and won first palce in her age group! Emma’s mom encourages her daughter’s interest in art.
“Whenever I see an interesting picture in a magazine, I put it in a binder for Emma to look at. The pictures sometimes inspire her to draw new things. But she has her own style.” Emma hopes to be a ballerina when she grows up.
Congratulations to our third-place winner, Lindsay L., age 4! Lindsay chose this beautiful bird for her favorite animal, using watercolors and colored pencils. She was inspired by colorful birds like parrots, and Zazu, the red-billed hornbill from The Lion King.
“Lindsay is outgoing and loves to sing and dance,” said her dad. “She is very into princesses right now, and is quite captivated by the character Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.” Lindsay is interested in becoming a chef one day and owning her own restaurant, just like Tiana.
