When You’re Teased for Being Tall

Dear Kids:

Kids make fun of me because I’m tall. I’m 5 feet in fourth grade. What should I do?

Kathryn in Illinois

Dear Kathryn:
I’m in third grade this year and almost 4 feet tall. But, I’ve thought about you. Choose a person you like best, say that it hurts your feelings, and ask them to please stop. Make a friend!

Emily in Washington

Dear Kathryn:
Sometimes kids make fun of me because I am short for a fifth grader. You should try laughing with them, ignore them, or just say that’s the way I am made!

Drew in Michigan

Dear Kathryn:
It does not matter if your 5 feet in 4th grade. You are perfect just the way you are! Don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself. Be proud of who you are! If you still need more help ask your teachers and parents to help you!

From Christopher in Massachusetts

Dear Kathryn:
I’m 11 years old and in the 6th grade. I am 5 feet, 6 inches tall and I went through the same thing. I also found a way to stop the teasing. Ignoring them completely worked. Even if others are really making you mad, keep talking to your friend or someone else about another subject. Just don’t cry in front of them—it only makes it worse.
I wish you the best of luck!
