Mix and Fix
Pineapple Moon Balls
Art by Christopher Wurth
Is the moon really made of cheese? No, but these little moons are! You will use your hands for mixing and rolling, so be sure to wash them first! Ask an adult helper to do the cutting.

What You Need:

  • Mixing bowl

  • 8-ounces low-fat cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup crushed pineapple (squeeze out juice)

  • 1/4 cut golden raisins, chopped

  • 4 teaspoons honey*

  • 2/3 cup sunflower seeds

  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs

  • Small bowl

  • Wax paper-lined cookie sheet

Try Apple Moon Balls by using:
• 1 cup dried apples, chopped (instead of pineapple)
• 1/4 cup dark raisins, chopped (instead of golden raisins)
• 2 teaspoons honey (instead of 4 teaspoons)
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon

*Parents: Honey should not be given to children under the age of 1.

What You Do:

  1. Place the cream cheese, pineapple, raisins, honey, and sunflower seeds in the bowl.

  2. Use your hands to mix everything together until it is well-blended. Clean your hands.

  3. Pour the graham cracker crumbs into the small bowl.

  4. Dampen your fingertips with water; roll balls (about the size of a quarter) between your fingers. Then roll each ball in graham cracker crumbs and place it on the wax paper. Refrigerate moon balls until firm before eating. Yum!
