Holiday Hot Chocolate

Do you have milk chocolate chips or chocolate coins (gelt) in the cupboard? Ask an adult to help you make this yummy hot chocolate with holiday spices!

 

 

What You Need:

(Makes 2 servings)

  • ½-²⁄ 3  cup chocolate bar, chopped, milk chocolate chips, or
    Hanukkah gelt
  • 1-quart microwave-safe measuring cup with spout
  • 2 cups low-fat milk
  • Whisk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg
  • 2 mugs
  • 2 small candy canes

 What You Do:

  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Place the chocolate
    in the measuring cup.
  3. Add the milk to the
    chocolate pieces.
  4. Ask your adult helper to place the measuring cup in the microwave and heat on Medium-High (70 percent power) for 2½-3 minutes, whisking every 30 seconds.
    Remove the cup from the microwave.
  5. Add vanilla, cinnamon,
    and nutmeg, and gently stir with the whisk.
  6. Let your adult helper
    pour the hot chocolate
    into mugs and add a candy cane stir stick. Now, wish everyone “Happy Holidays!”
    and enjoy the warm and
    spicy flavors of the season.
