U.S. Kids Reporter and Jack and Jill reader Gabrielle F., 10, of Florida, wrote about her trip to Ireland.
When I went to Ireland for my aunt’s wedding, we had so much fun. There were some issues though. Mostly everyone spoke Gaelic. We could only find Flintstones on TV. Everything else was in Gaelic. Dora the Explorer spoke a bit of English, lots of Gaelic, and bits of Spanish. Luckily, most people at the wedding spoke English, but had a strong accent.
We met our second cousins. I danced with the eldest of them. His name was Sam, although with his accent, he pronounced it “Som.” They also pronounced zebra “zebra,” though I pronounce it “zeebra.” They dressed very fancy. I wear short dresses that go a little past my knees, and they wore lots of long, flowing dresses. Girls almost never wear pants. (I usually wear shorts.) I live in Florida where it doesn’t snow. We were there in the beginning of winter, so it didn’t snow yet, but it was much colder than Florida. I could see my breath. But even in summer it isn’t so hot. I was a flower girl at the wedding.
